Thanks to our Cast Members, Hollywood Casino Aurora was able to successfully complete the projects listed below.
1. Holy Angels Food Pantry - (3rd Friday of each month)
Hollywood Casino Star Volunteers join other pantry volunteers to help sort grocery items to benefit families in need.
2. Grand Blvd. Community Center - Paint and Let it Shine Project
The Grand Blvd. Community Center is in an area of Aurora that is an "at risk" neighborhood that was in need of a facelift. This center is used for church groups, neighborhood meetings as well as other neighborhood events. Hollywood Casino Star Volunteers spent the day painting the walls, washing & waxing floors and pulling weeds to give this neighborhood a place to shine.
3. Scholastic Literacy Partnership - Change Makes a Difference
Hollywood has joined the Scholastic Literacy Partnership to provide reading books to local grade school kids in need. These third to fifth graders were allowed to choose a book to take home. Most of these children do not have books at home. Our Cast Members made donations to buy books through this special scholastic program. Hollywood worked with the school's volunteer committee chose the books for the various ages and classrooms.
4. Warm Hands - Warm Hearts Project
Hollywood Casino employees donated gently used hats, gloves, scarves, mittens and winter boots for women, children and babies to be donated to Mutual Ground and Hesad House. Mutual Ground is a battered woman's shelter and Hesed House is a homeless shelter; both are located in Aurora.
5. Operation Support our Troops
Hollywood Casino participated in a collection drive for our soldiers overseas. Cast Members provided items and letters for troops in need to all branches of the military. Hollywood donated over 200 pounds of food and personal care items.
6. Fox River and Indian Creek Cleanup
Star Volunteers from Hollywood came together to clean up a stretch of the Fox River near Hollywood Casino. Hollywood was part of the project that cleaned up a four-mile stretch of Indian Creek that runs east of the Fox River.
7. Rebuilding Together Aurora
Once a year, on the last Saturday in April, skilled and unskilled volunteers alike join together in a unique one-day blitz event to repair homes in the Aurora community. Rebuilding Together rehabilitates and revitalizes the houses of Aurora's low-income population, particularly the elderly, disabled, and families with children. In addition to Hollywood being a major sponsor of this event a group of Star Volunteers was also part of the "team".
